Now that the presidential election is over, the people of Ohio are facing another important choice -- whether their state will embrace clean energy measures that will save money and lives, or continue wasting energy from polluting coal plants.
Davis-Besse, a nuclear power plant just 30 miles from downtown Toledo, does not provide the same margin of safety that it did when it was built 34 years ago. Will we allow the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to simply lower its standards?
The public deserves more from FirstEnergy. It's time to release all the photos, all the test results, and all the reports. It's time to stop the spin and start full disclosure. Tell the people the truth about Davis-Besse.
For the people of Ohio, yesterday was a big day. As I look south from downtown Chicago, I can only hope that the folks managing our similarly toxic coal plants will come to a similar decision so that the same toll can be stopped in our town.
