To America's comedians Sarah Palin is the gift that keeps on giving; to pundits she's the political actor who keeps on fascinating. Yet for all the coverage of the crib notes gaffe, a lot of people missed the point.
With the exception of one poorly-chosen word, it seems to me to fit the classic definition of a "Washington gaffe" -- accidentally speaking a bald truth, and having to immediately apologize for such unseemliness.
After Hillary dropped out, I lost my enthusiasm for this presidential campaign. But I'll tell you what. The fire in the belly that these two guys evinced on that stage today actually got me excited again.
I don't think McCain actually thinks Petraeus is the chairman of JCS. But within the context of all of his other gaffes, one has to wonder. Is he slipping and making simple mistakes on a regular basis?
If McCain, who brags about his foreign policy credentials, can't get the facts right about who shares a border with whom and who's helping who in different struggles, he is not qualified to lead this country.
