I realize I'll be ok, after being out for nearly three years I've built a pretty good sized community of accepting and loving friends, family, and people who care for me. I know my family loves me and that won't ever change. However, how will this policy change affect the life of that queer Mormon kid sitting in the congregation wondering if she'll ever be welcomed in the pews?
On November 28, 2015, my spouse and I went to see Trumbo, which is based upon the life of Dalton Trumbo and how it was impacted during one of the most shameful times in U.S. history -- the McCarthy era. The film interested me because of many comparable similarities today and because the father of close childhood friends of mine had been included on the Hollywood-blacklist.
Today, nearly everyone knows the words to "It's Raining Men" -- especially within the LGBT community. While the song's authors might have predicted its lasting impact, particularly on gay audiences, vocalist Martha Wash certainly never did. In fact, she admits The Weather Girls didn't even want to sing it!
