Health Care Passes

Democrats may indeed lose seats in Congress for passing health care legislation, just as they lost seats emanating from the 1964 Civil Rights Act. As I always say, better to lose a congressional seat to right an immoral wrong.

While I'm cheering for Pelosi's political skill, I wish I could be cheering louder for passage of a bill that actually did more to accomplish universal affordable health care for all Americans.

The GOP calls Obama a lying, socialist, Commie mole and he continues to take the high road. To borrow from a religious tradition, no matter how much you love your enemy, sometimes you just have to throw the moneychangers out of the temple.

The lives of millions of Americans will be improved because of what the Democrats have done. The Republicans, meanwhile, have been hoisted with their own deeply cynical petard.

Armed with a successfully enacted program for progress and led by an articulate, capable and intelligent leader, the war for truth is being waged against the corporate funded right wing. The passing of health care reform is the first step.
