The healthcare.gov launch is a debacle for those who believe that we should outsource public services to for-profit companies without adequate planning and oversight. Sadly, when it comes to outsourcing government IT services, the healthcare.gov example is par for the course.
Glitches and outages have been the main focus thus far in the scrutiny over the HealthCare.gov website - but a bigger problem could be looming on the horizon for Americans who wish to enroll on the site: hacking.
Is it okay to highlight website problems? Yes. Is it okay to push the president to get these tech issues resolved quickly? Absolutely. But when did having website problems become the same thing as not sending enough help to those dying and suffering in the midst of a devastating hurricane?
Instead of antiquated PowerPoint presentations, how about a detailed strategic development, testing and website launch plan from the private companies hired to design, build and manage the multi-million dollar website?
