Witnessing red-hot lava explode from an erupting volcano has always been on my personal bucket list. But since volcanic eruptions are unpredictable and rare, it was one natural wonder I assumed I'd never see.
I just spent 10 days vacationing in a community whose existence is threatened by a slow-moving wave of hot molten rock, and ever since I got home, I haven't been able to stop thinking about tiny Pahoa. There's more to this town than you might think.
While the artists at Pixar obviously found a way to make a volcano look personable and appealing, there was still the matter of selling the audience on the size of this character and the overall scale of this short.
