No surprise that its "wail till next year" for the Knicks. They've been doing that since 1973. During that time New York and New Jersey teams have combined for 20 championships, yet the Knicks drought continues.
"But now when a player turns to see his clubs taken... by some wee bit lassie, he no longer shakes his head dubiously."
So let's move past the "institution" and ask the members of Augusta to take an honest look in the mirror and ask themselves whether discrimination against women truly reflects their values.
This one didn't make the Masters telecast. A 40-year-old Masters "patron" was arrested for trying to steal sand from one of the sand traps. Police said he was drinking heavily at the time, and failed to get any sand into his cup.
How great was that? Bubba Watson pulling off a wacky shot from the woods and then breaking down in tears after winning the Masters. It was a sports moment that will be forever stored in our memory banks.
Bubba's wife and son couldn't make the Masters ceremony. Instead they get the rest of their lives to have Bubba in his role as an adoptive dad. It's not as exclusive as being a Masters winner but in making any impact on the world, it's more important.
As sure as the azaleas bloom, the Masters golf tournament reminds us that Augusta National Golf Club still discriminates against women. As members squirm, some of us who frequent the world's poshest private enclaves are delighted to see the prejudice practiced at Augusta drawing attention anew.
Don't we want to know how Romney or Obama is going to create a better environment where women can have the choice -- to stay at home and raise a family or go to work full-time and not be judged on whether they are a good mom, or be given more flex time to do both?
Tim Tebow tweeted, "I've already said it 44 times so here goes number 45: I'm really excited to be a Jet! Haha!" If you weren't scoring at home, he said the word "excited" 44 times in his Jets news conference.
One of these days, Woods and Mickelson are going to need to recognize that, like Palmer and Nicklaus, they are forever joined, even if Tiger will have the grander career.
If Tiger manages to pull off a win this year, it will take either a phenomenal performance or a complete meltdown from the leaders.
