Carson has said he would require any Muslim candidate for the presidency to address the question of sharia and explicitly renounce any belief in it. After such repudiation Carson would be quite willing to support a Muslim candidate. I suspect that most Americans, once made aware of the foregoing facts, would feel that way, including many Muslims.
I look at the reception this week of Pope Francis who is being embraced by Americans of ALL faiths...and I love his nickname as "The People's Pope". What a perfect example of how people of all faiths can hear a message and recognize the 95 percent of things we all have and want in common, and not focus on labels and differences.
Voteres want a president who is experienced, well-versed and firm on dealing with the inevitable crises that will confront the country. There's absolutely no hint that the general public has shut down on Clinton in this vital area of public policy. But this won't stop the GOP from peddling that line.
