Most people know my father, Leonard Bernstein, as an iconic American composer and conductor. However, he was also a dedicated teacher. He sought to use music, fine arts, and performing arts to instill a lifelong love of learning in students.
Growing up as a 4th-generation Mexican American in Los Angeles, I proudly embraced my heritage as a Latino, Angelino and American. I believed in the possibility of everything. I believed that we should all dream big, that we are all agents of our own destiny.
Twenty-three years since its beginning, Nunez's Young People's Chorus has become one of the most influential and honored choruses in the world. In the process, it has introduced millions of listeners, young and old, to great music across the spectrum.
