Sometimes the relationship between a player and a fan is deeper. Sometimes, you know a player's number won't be retired but in your head, it is anyway. For me, the number 9 in Boston will always belong to Rajon Rondo.
It all started as a practical joke, just because I realized that @therealrondo was not taken yet on Twitter. But it quickly snowballed. My original concept for the joke was simple: to build up as many followers in your name as possible and then make a crazy announcement.
There are 38 games remaining in the regular season and the Celtics will need to play better basketball without Rajon Rondo than they were playing with the All-Star point guard. That's not going to be easy.
