It's shameful that Wellpoint lobbyists were successful in keeping key protections for those with serious illnesses out of the Senate bill. But it's even more shameful that Harry Reid has no intention of fixing it.
Senate Republicans may propose a "public option" amendment to the health care bill. If they do, Senate Dems plan to vote it down in order to keep the bill identical to the one that passed Sunday -- they should give this a sober second-thought.
If Senate Republicans actually succeeded in killing the entire reconciliation bill, they will not have stopped health care reform. That is law. Instead, Senate Republicans will have saved the "Cornhusker Kickback" and the "Gator-aid."
The American people have had enough of this double standard. The Democrats were elected to govern and to address the horrendous problems this country faces. It is time for the Democrats to use the reconciliation rules.
