"Shame", "hurt" -- the emotional trigger words are being used to turn the clock back to the dark ages when women had no voice, no power, no control of their own lives. As one who has been hurt, not by abortion but by powerlessness, and who strenuously objects to shaming, I declined the invitation. Women deserve better.
Reproductive justice embraces the interrelationship of reproductive freedom, religious liberty, and equality, among other rights and freedoms, as vital to creating meaningful social change and justice for everyone. It means supporting fundamental human rights -- the right to have full autonomy over our bodies.
New York State has long been a leader in advancing women's equality, stretching back to the Seneca Falls Convention 166 years ago this weekend. Sadly, as we mark this important anniversary, hard-won victories by the women's rights movement are being threatened by a radical right wing that seeks to roll back the progress we've made.
