In the short run, the NBA may have made more money. But in the absence of a once-in-a-generation fair game between the Cavaliers and the Warriors, the NBA may well lose money, viewers, and loyalty in the long run.
Blame me for being overly focused on my home team, the Golden State Warriors, throughout this year in this forum as well as on my blog. I admit I was. But if you watched them regularly (and everyone in the Bay Area now watches every game), how could I not talk about them all the time?
LeBron James made a statement after the Cavaliers lost in Game 5. He said that he was the "best player in the world." On Tuesday night, he watched the best NBA team in the world hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy on his own home court.
The true test has come. Both teams match up very well and it will be unlike the previous teams faced in the playoffs. The Cavs were clearly the best team to come out of the East, and the Warriors face their toughest competition.
