If we fail to offer the skills of self-awareness, self-mastery, and resilience to this generation, we are leaving them disadvantaged and ill-equipped, with some in a precarious position as they try to find their way in this increasingly high-stress world.
What are you doing and... what are you looking forward to? Do something about teen suicide. Remind yourself of things you are looking forward to and tell a young person. It can make a world of difference.
I am proud that the New York City Council has crated the Respect for All (RFA) program in our public schools. RFA creates safe spaces for students by giving them a forum to celebrate their identity and diversity regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
I will not stand by and see other families destroyed. We must defeat bullying. Parents, teachers, grandparents, and -- most of all -- kids, must band together and stop this epidemic in our schools and on our playgrounds.
Bullying, some would argue, is also a tradition. It's been happening for generations, and is often even passed down within families. The weapons change through the years, but the victims tend to remain constant, kids who are different.
