GOP Rep. Todd Courser also resigned when it became clear that a majority Republicans had secured votes from enough Democrats for his expulsion.
Only three lawmakers have been expelled in Michigan history.
But the university isn't hiding its annoyance with the lengthy investigation.
"We need to seize the opportunity to make Michigan’s energy decisions in Lansing," Gov. Rick Snyder said.
