So what do you do when Screamin' Sicilian sends you a couple of their new frozen pizzas to try out? Well, most people would probably just throw them in the oven and enjoy the fact that the pizzas come packed with quality toppings like full strips of bacon -- a majority of which come from within 200 miles of the facility where the pizzas are made. Me on the other hand, I decided to grill up a gigantic four pound ground beef patty, use the pizzas as a bun and create a Screamin' Sicilian Pizza Burger.
I did something similar on a much smaller scale a few years back, and the one mistake I made the first time around was not making my burger patty large enough. Granted, it started out large enough but it shrank as it cooked like all burger patties do. This time, I made sure to start off with a patty that was a good couple inches larger than the diameter of my two Screamin' Sicilian pizzas and when it was finally done on the grill it was a perfect 12 inches in diameter.
I've got to admit, I was a little nervous that the giant burger patty wouldn't even hold together but luckily I own a gigantic metal spatula that allowed me to flip it with ease.
In the end my Palermo's Pizza Burger tasted even better than I expected. Granted, due to its size you couldn't exactly eat it like a normal burger, but slicing it into pieces like you would with a pie worked out perfectly. Oh, and in case you're wondering how long it takes to eat a pizza burger of this caliber the answer is two full days...
