The designer dishes on everything from the "Delight" bag to fashion "Do's" and "Don'ts."
At a recent mark by Avon and Rebecca Minkoff launch event, Recessionista got to catch up with the it-girl designer, business mogul and new mommy. After an insightful Q&A about how she got her start ($10,000 and an "I Love New York" T-shirt... ) and what inspires her designs (Paris, dah-ling!), we gave her a round of rapid-fire questions. Here's what we learned:
NICOLE: Any fashion mishaps you would never repeat?
REBECCA: I guess when I thought I was in better shape than I was and I wore a very fitted dress that wasn't very... (she says touching her stomach)
NICOLE: (turning to the audience) She just had a baby, ladies!
REBECCA: (laughs) 6 months ago.
NICOLE: I can't imagine a time you were not in shape. But I get it, there was a "tight dress situation," right?
REBECCA: (laughs again) Yes, there was a "tight dress situation."
NICOLE: Okay, okay, I'll give you a pass on that one. Guilty food pleasure?
REBECCA: Croissants and chocolate.
NICOLE: Together?
REBECCA: No, separate.
NICOLE: Nice. Best fashion advice ever received?
REBECCA: "If you can't wear the shoes in your apartment, don't leave the house in them."
NICOLE: Note to self! Most regretful fashion advice ever taken?
REBECCA: To mix prints! You can do that... but I did it wrong. I did two competing prints and it didn't work out for me.
NICOLE: Sweatpants or stilettos?
REBECCA: Sweatpants.
NICOLE: Sweatpants and stilettos?
REBECCA: Only if they're the stylish sweatpants that Isabel Marant and Phillip Lim make!
NICOLE: Yeah, those are hot. What's on your iPod right now?
REBECCA: Beiruit, Adele, Mumford and Sons.
NICOLE: What's your favorite New York City brunch spot?
REBECCA: Oh... that's tough. I like The Smile. It's on Bond Street between Bowery and Lafayette.
NICOLE: How could you not like a brunch spot with a name like that?! If you weren't a designer, what would you be?
REBECCA: I can't figure that out, which is why I'm still doing this!
