The economy is issue number one for most voters, and there is one thing Democrats and Republicans agree on -- America's small businesses are vital to economic prosperity. Small business owner and entrepreneur, Tara Dowdell, points to small business as the engine for economic growth, saying "if only half of them hired one person we would have zero unemployment in this country."

Like many small business owners, Dowdell says her business needs better policies coming out of Washington D.C. Tara says small businesses have both challenges and opportunities. In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, one challenge small businesses around the country face is receiving credit. On the positive side, Tara advises small businesses to take advantage of the single largest contractor and purchaser in the world -- the U.S. federal government.
