It is being reported -- as breaking news -- right here at HuffPost (thanks, Sam Stein!) that the "National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform" known better as the "Debt Commission" will recommend big cuts to Social Security and Medicare, plus, tax hikes to 'shore up' those programs.

I am very curious to see how the white, old, rural, male, Southerners (WORMS) that toted their oxygen tanks to the "Tea Party" rallies -- and railed against "big government" -- will react to the prospect of their federal umbilical cords being crimped? For all their bloviating, screaming and rudeness, these low information voters have no idea just how much that "big government" has done and still does for them.

Will they, now, scream and yell about their benefits being cut? Will their Republican handlers tell them "suck it up, sons, ya gotta be tough -- spit on it, rub a little dirt on it, be self-reliant, take personal responsibility" or will the Republicans pander to them?

I am very curious to see!

They'll throw a temper tantrum worthy of an out of control two year old...and whine like an obnoxious teen that they've been betrayed and it's "NOT FAIR!"..... That's pretty much what they are...a sick combination of an out of control two year old and an even MORE out of control teen ager....

Nevermind. My apologies and a salutation.

i have never seen a bigger bunch of spoiled crybabies than the teabaggers. they have d@mn near everything a human can possibly have and they cry as if their lives are on the brink. they live in one of the best societies ever crafted and they think the whole thing needs to be changed. they should travel to parts of central and south america and see what it's like when a society doesn't cooperate to fashion a government that sets the foundation for the basics of having this astounding society that they can't stand.
11:47 PM on 11/10/2010
The tea party and their ancestors are the people responsible for this astounding society. They've worked thier asses off for generations to get what they have and to forge this great nation. They know how easily it all can be lost or devalued or taken directly by the redistributionists. What makes the last two generations think that everything should be free. Nothing is free, particularly for the working class. Go be the hardest worker at whatever your'e doing and ultimately you can be as rich as
Rockefeller. But you have to do something to EARN it.

It's just too bad they lost their humanity and their conscience along the way and gained their "it is all about me" mentality.

Of course they will . It doesn't matter that gov't would get smaller or that we would be trying to reduce the debt, like they wanted. Fir4st of all they wo't give up anything for the good of society, second of all, they won't let Obama do anything that would make him look like a leader.Neither would the rest of the GOP.

You have no idea what you are talking about! Talk about passing judgement! You don't know what we have done or not done! You are so busy passing judgment as a means of defending an indefensible stance that you aren't considering what you are saying. I suggest you go out and learn about those of us who have busted our bu**s all our lives but for various reasons, financial, medical, personal, legal-whatever-have not had as much success before you make ridiculous blanket statements.

Another thing, those old people have nothing to worry about. No politician is going to take anything away from them, they'll take it from groups who don't vote as reliably and those who are more republican in general.

As a lifelong Democrat, I have always taken offense at people who purposefully refused to state the name of my party correctly. Starting with President Ronald Reagan, Republicans and other political opponents have insisted on calling us the "Democrat" party, trying to obliterate any link, I suppose, between our party and the word democracy. Still, that annoyance has made me very sensitive to the manner in which we address our political opponents. But, I notice this year -- and especially on this website -- that my fellow Democrats, including the person who wrote this article -- love to disparage followers of the Tea Party by calling them "teabaggers." I do not know much about the Tea Party, nor do I care to learn much more about them. But, I believe that to be treated with respect, we first should treat others with respect. It may be an unpopular view, but it is mine, nonetheless.

I agree. When someone who is identified as a Tea Party proponent starts off a comment with "you libs" it betrays a complete lack of thought or ability to carry on a conversation. I don't see where dropping "teabagger" is different.

I'm all for showing them as much respect as they show me... And, from where I stand, they'll get absolutely none from me....until they can keep civil tongues in their heads....

If we can read between the lines of what is coming:

- the GOP will blame Pres. Obama for the ransacking of medicaid and SS (as proposed by the debt commission), and this will become further "proof" that he's a "socialist"....(as suggested by the GOP and stated as being their top priority: the undermining of the president, GOP goal #1).
- working families will be pitted against families that have lost jobs, while corporations sit back with popcorn to watch the battle lines being drawn and class warfare tensions rising....while families are pitted against one another, and corporations and millionaires walk away with tax loopholes, no taxes, and big bonuses that came at the tax payers expense when main street was raided by wall street. Those who still have homes will be pitted against those losing their homes, while millionaires in the senate make sure that they don't lose their cram down privileges, nor their LOOP HOLES (as in RI, where yacht owners apparently can avoid taxes on BIG BOATS by having them shipped to that state...yes?)

And the biggest kicker of all? The republicans will pin all of this on the democrats (who in effect through their own negligence, greed, or sell out of the people's mandate in 2008) - who will end up taking the hit in 2012.

No, they will not scream unless they see a black person.

Let's face it, conservatives are against ANYTHING government does, even if it is cost efficient, beneficial and right.
Teabaggers would LOVE social security, if it were out of the government's hands.

They are driven solely by ideology and blind rage over a black man in the white house.

The government could turn lead into gold and these racists would complain the government is depressing the gold markets.

Where are the teabaggers protesting all of the recent news from the GOP that is contrary to their agenda?

What, it's OK if white folk do it?

I think that's part of their problem. The main part of it is money...and greed...(When is more enough for these people? Never satisfied.)...and A LOT of control freak issues... Just my .02....

Those folks that want to keep the government out of Medicare have a long, painful march to get in contact with reality. They must tune out Fox News. They must rise above their racist leanings. They must know something about civics. They must reject deeply held beliefs. How will that happen? In the current dream state that has mesmerized this country ever since St. Ronald it's difficult to know what you don't know. Alas, I see no way. Show me that I'm wrong, please.
