The Abstraction of Death

So why am I not thrilled by the victory of the Democrats? It is because each day brings the needless deaths and wounding of more of our boys and girls, our men and women.

For the longest time, I have held the notion of when you are dead; you are dead for at least a long time, and most probably forever. It has always been difficult for me, as an atheist; to perceive that when you die, that was all there was for you. But that is what I think is true.

When I have been asked during the last few days about how happy I was in that the Democrats had broken the right wing stranglehold on our congress, (I did not say Republican on purpose, but that is something else.) I have said that I remained depressed that people were still dying in Iraq.

I am a four year veteran of the war in Korea, and I am happy that I did not give my life or any part of my body to what was purported to be the noble cause of the war on the Korean peninsula. Sadly over 50,000 of our men and women killed were not as fortunate.

In the pursuit of something or other, well over 50,000 of our men and women died in Vietnam.

I am sure that many will say that both wars were justified, as some will say about our activity in Iraq, yet the people who were killed and wounded in pursuit of some vague concept created by "much older" men, are still no less killed or wounded, never mind the mental scars that are endured by so many, and are observed by so few.

So why am I not thrilled by the victory of the Democrats? It is because each day brings the needless deaths and wounding of more of our boys and girls, our men and women, and of course the Iraqis as well.

Happy Veterans Day

I want to shout, ok guys; enough is enough, stop already. Why is anyone still in harms way defending who from whom?

WHY, WHY, WHY

STOP, STOP, STOP

NOW, NOW, NOW
