Today I've sent this video blog from the WRA Citizen's Voice studio at the IPU conference, where I am joined by WRA Nigeria National Coordinator Tonte Ibraye:

The 2nd Citizen's News broadcast brings you up-to-date reporting on the draft resolution entitled "Access to Health As a Basic Human Right: The Role of Parliamentarians in Addressing Key Challenges to Securing the Health of Women and Children."

Today's interviews include Ulrika Karlsson, an MP from Sweden, and Hon. Sarah Nyombi, a Ugandan MP and former midwife who recalled her personal experience of losing women in childbirth due to a lack of funding, support, and infrastructure.

Nearly 650 members of parliament from over 120 countries are attending the 126th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly from March 31 to April 5 in Kampala, Uganda. This year's theme is "Parliaments and People: Bridging the Gap," and the health of women and children is high on the agenda.

White Ribbon Alliance (WRA) is reporting direct from the assembly, following the progress of the IPU resolution "Access to Health As a Basic Human Right: The Role of Parliamentarians in Addressing Key Challenges to Securing the Health of Women and Children."

Please help us in sharing the Citizen's Voice from the IPU Assembly, where parliamentarians are meeting to discuss current international political, economic, and social concerns.

Follow us and join the conversation on Facebook or on Twitter @WRAglobal, #WRAvoices.

About the WRA Citizen's Voice web blogs:

From March 31 to April 5, 2012, the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood (WRA) is producing a five-minute video blog daily from our studio at the 126th IPU Assembly in Kampala, Uganda. We are interviewing key figures in attendance, raising the voice of citizens and supporters, and connecting delegates at the IPU with media in their country and globally via a short video blog highlighting the day's events. The WRA is at the IPU to promote the fact that access to health is a basic right and to discuss the role of parliamentarians in addressing key challenges to securing the health of women and children. (Disclaimer: the opinions expressed in our IPU video blogs are the opinions of individuals and not necessarily the opinion of the White Ribbon Alliance. The WRA is not an independent news outlet. We are a global movement for safe motherhood.)
