The debate among progressive voters over whether to vote for the "lesser of two evils" from the major parties or to opt for a more progressive third party option has been long-running. But the rise of Bernie Sanders during the primaries gave many liberals hope that they could finally move beyond this dilemma and vote for a true progressive who is running within a major party. Sanders' mistreatment by the Democratic party and ultimate defeat to Hillary Clinton left many progressives disheartened and reluctant to engage any further in this election.
