Attention Young Voters--Sarah Palin Reveals McCain Will Launch Early War Against Iran. Can a Military Draft be Far Behind?

Sarah Palin confirmed what all but the remaining neocons fear about a McCain Administration: that early in his Presidency, McCain will launch a war against Iran.

Here is what she said in an interview with Greta van Susteren of FoxNews:

"And we talk a lot about, OK, we're confident that we're going to win on Tuesday, so from there, the first 100 days, how are we going to kick in the plan that will get this economy back on the right track and really shore up the strategies that we need over in Iraq and Iran to win those wars".

This should come as no surprise to those who know McCain's perspective on foreign policy. A military man who served no role--as, e.g., General Petraeus does now, General Clark did in the '90s and General Eisenhower did in the '40s--on the policy side of military, a highly temperamental man to whom nuance is a four-letter word, McCain sees war as an early alternative to relationship building, compromise and diplomacy.

McCain has said that he does not know what he would speak to Iran about, and has hinted that all diplomacy that should be tried has already occurred.

Governor Palin may not know much about foreign policy, but it would be difficult to believe that the McCain campaign's crash course did not include telling her what McCain intends to do when elected. That's easy.

Thus, we must take her at her word. There is nothing about "the first 100 days...shoring up the strategies we need over in Iraq and Iran to win those wars" that is either subtle or subject to misunderstanding.

A nuclear Iran, clearly, represents a threat to the region. The best guage of that threat is that the Sunni Arab states have not moved to develop nuclear weapons despite knowing of Israel's arsenal, but that, if Iran became nuclear armed, the Sunni Arab states would develop a nuclear arsenal of their own.

So, this critique is not meant to diminish that threat. Rather, it is to point out that there should be many other steps we can, and should, take in order to get Iran to cease-and-desist. One of those steps is direct and concerted engagement.

And, there is a

So, let us add up the troop commitments early in a McCain Administration. Unlike Barack Obama, McCain will keep troops levels in Iraq approximately the same. McCain has followed Obama in committing more troops to Afghanistan. Thus, even before he launches war against Iran, our already-overstretched military will need some means to get more personnel under a McCain Administration. The draft is a good bet.

Once Iran is added to the mix, there is no scenario in which a military draft is not necessary. Even if the attack is entirely from the air, the US military must be prepared for the reaction from Iran.

There are reports that young voters are not turning out for this election in the numbers expected. That is a pity for the country.

And, for themselves.

What's wrong with having a draft? I grew up in a Western country that had a draft and found that the young men who did their national Service had their act together. They matured from young losers into men who knew the meaning of discipline. As a high school teacher coping with teenagers who have had it too easy and have no idea what self discipline is, I think they'd benefit from military service before college or work.. My Norwegian nephew underwent a year of service and thoroughly enjoyed meeting teens from all walks of life. Quite an eye opener for him! Just one caveat: no war zone acivity unless the the draftee signs up for it; there's plenty to do here at home.

Thats no surprise, remembering the song McCain sang "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" he has been itching to start something like that since day one.

I have heard also that young voters are not turning out in numbers yet. But, can we be sure that they are not turning out? It may be possible that they are turning out and the MSM may not be reporting it. We can all see that they are "in the tank" for John McCain. All they have being doing for the last few days is pushing McCain. As for the McCain-Palin ticket and war with Iran, well if We, the People, put them is office, then we will deserve no better. I can envision a war with Iran bringing about a change in the US and that change would not be for the good. With them, not only would the draft come back, but we would be "up the creek without a canoe or paddle." No one has mentioned how he never uttered the word "middle class" during any of the three debates. That was because he has no care for the middle class or the lower economic class, either.

And you would prefer Obama's "Civilian National Security Force"?
