This is somewhere between information-providing and self-serving.

My publisher, Seven Stories Press, is sponsoring a panel titled “Beating Around the Bush: An Evening of Satire,” with Kurt Vonnegut, Art Buchwald, Barry Crimmins (political stand-up, writer for Air America) and me. It will be introduced by Harper’s editor Lewis Lapham and moderated by actress Sarah Jones. Thursday, October 6, at the N.Y. Society for Ethical Culture, 7-9 p.m.

The event will launch my latest book, “One Hand Jerking: Reports From an Investigative Satirist,” with a foreword by Harry Shearer and an introduction by Lewis Black. It’s a collection of my writings over the last few years--short columns and long articles such as “Blowing Deadlines with Hunter Thompson,” “The Rise of Sirhan Sirhan in the Scientology Hierarchy” and “The Ballad of Lenny the Lawyer,” a 5,000-word essay that accompanied a 6-CD Lenny Bruce anthology and was nominated for a 2005 Grammy award in the Best Album Notes category.

On Friday, October 7, I read at the Coliseum Bookstore, on 42nd St., across from the main library. Then on to Cleveland, to perform at a benefit for UHCAN (Universal Health Care Action Network) on Tuesday, October 11 at the Hilarities 4th St. Theater in Pickwick & Frolic. For tickets, call (216) 736-4242; for my bookstore readings there, see www.paulkrassner.com -- and while you’re online, I highly recommend that you check out this website.
