After the Army Chief of Staff had estimated a need for "several hundred thousand" troops to occupy post-invasion Iraq, Wolfowitz, who has no military experience, told Congress on Feb. 27, 2003, "It is hard to conceive that it would take more forces to provide stability in post-Saddam Iraq than it would take to conduct the war itself." Following his public service, Wolfowitz resigned as head of the World Bank after it was revealed he'd given his girlfriend, a bank employee, a promotion and an excessive pay raise. He currently chairs a lobby promoting Taiwanese business interests in the US, and is a visiting scholar at the conservative think tank AEI.
