Some years ago poet Robert Bly reminded me that it is in dark times that our light -- the light of truth -- is most needed. I am mindful of the many people who have withstood the fury of lies and deceits these past years, keeping the flame of truth kindled sufficiently that now, their voices are beginning to be heard.

People like Susan Faludi and John Dean are just two of many we've recently come to know. She courageously tells the truth about post-9/11 America and he unflinchingly reveals the Republican lies and deceits at the heart of America's current sorry state of affairs. I am thankful for them and the many others unintimidated by fierce personal attacks, who have endured until the walls of dishonesty finally begin to collapse due to the corrupted state of the walls' constituents.

And I am thankful for the personal courage shown my beloved friend, Zan. In the face of the death that comes to all living things, he bravely and succinctly said, "I'll tell it to you straight. I'm in the final stages of pancreatic cancer."

Next year, we will be remembering Zan. This year, I am thankful for his example and for the examples of many others. Live vividly, mindfully, truthfully, and be thankful EVERY day.

You can hear our conversation with Susan Faludi, John Dean and many, many more guests who together represent both the splendid array of humanity and the variety of leading-edge action and ideas, available for your listening pleasure on our website. One thing they have in common is that they tell the truth, as best they can discern it (except for James Frey, but that's another story!)
