The 1 Minute Blog: Mo'Ne Madness

When Mo'Ne Davis graced the cover of Sports Illustrated, she gave America a sweet victory.

This small-framed, African American girl gave us hope we can live in Martin Luther King's America, where we don't judge "children by the color of their skin, but the content of their character."

With racial tensions at an all-time high in Ferguson, Mo., it's refreshing to see America rise to the occasion, and celebrate this baseball phenom with the decency she deserves.

For the uninitiated, the thirteen-year-old plays for Philadelphia's Taney Dragons. She captured the world's attention when she used her 70 mph fastball to throw a shutout in the Mid-Atlantic Final. That sent her team to the World Series.

What followed was even more astounding. Mo'Ne is the first girl to throw a shutout in Little League World Series history. She threw a two hitter, striking out eight players in a 4-0 win over Nashville.

Mo'Ne is the 5-foot, 4-inch, 111-pound hero who helps us keep perspective. While pockets of America seem locked in the 1950s, others are progressive. She gives us a glimpse of the better America, the one Martin Luther King envisioned.

Mo'Ne gives us hope the better America will prevail.
