I've found it to be very much like D2 in many ways - you'll have no trouble jumping right in. I like the controls and the gameplay seems well tuned. They've stayed pretty close to the formula, but if you like the formula, that's a good thing.

I very much enjoyed the Barbarian, Monk and Demon Hunter while I found the Wizard underpowered (it was just the early going of course - mages are usually weaker then) and I actually hated the Witch Doctor if only because of the goofy animations.

There's a fair amount of "Blah Blah Blah" from the NPCs, but of course some people really like that story aspect (I do in some games but in Diablo I mostly just want to kill critters and take their stuff).

I have to say I found the variety and quantity of magic items to be not very interesting, but again the beta is just the first few levels and you don't really get to try out the crafting system very much. It looked pretty promising, and I liked the idea of levelling up your artisans.

All in all I really enjoyed it (I've only had the beta about 10 days and haven't put a ton of time into it yet).

I guess the best way to sum up my experience is that I said to myself, "Yep, that's Diablo. Awesome."
