Madonna, Lana Del Rey, and the Artists to Watch Out for in 2012

The right New Year's song captures the spirit of the passing year, celebrates the one to come ... it compels you to dance and kind of makes you want to cry (in a good way).

Here are some of her music recommendations to get your 2012 playlist back on track:

Your must have New Year's song/album to ring in 2012.

The right New Year's song captures the spirit of the passing year, celebrates the one to come ... it compels you to dance and kind of makes you want to cry (in a good way). In 2009 it was Empire State of Mind. Last year it was Firework by Katy Perry. Top contenders this year include Give Me Everything by Pitbull and We Found Love by Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris -- but my top pick this year goes to Lady Gaga with Edge of Glory.

Your favorite album of 2011.

It's a tie between 21 (Adele) and Watch the Throne (Jay-Z & Kanye West). Choosing one of those two would be like Sophie's Choice. I love them both equally.

What you're looking forward to in 2012.

Your favorite new artist to watch out for.

Lana Del Rey. Considering the fact that her latest video has already attracted over 2.5 million views, and she recently landed a highly coveted spot on Saturday Night Live -- if you haven't heard of her yet, you will. The indie music blogger world may have blacklisted her -- but no matter how much they pout over her plump lips, I don't think it will stop the rest of the world from falling for the sultry singer.

Your all time favorite album/song and why.

Oh man -- there are so many great songs, it's impossible to pick just one. Nothing gives me goosebumps like Ray Charles singing Georgia on My Mind. It's everything a song should be and more ... simply music to my ears.

Favorite song/album that gets you into the holiday spirit.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire ... sleigh bells jingle-ing ... when it comes to the holiday music it's all about the classics. Without the nostalgic melodies and warmhearted lyrics from artists like Bing Crosby and Elvis Presley, it just wouldn't be Christmas. If I had to pick one favorite it would have to be "I'll Be Home for Christmas" by Bing Crosby. Between the snow and mistletoe, that one gets me every time.
