Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz Makes it Official - May 18th Is NY Writers Coalition Day!

What is NY Writers Coalition (NYWC) Day, you ask? It's a city-wide celebration of NYWC's 10 year anniversary, a day full of free creative writing workshops in iconic New York locations. For example, you'll be able to hop on the No. 7 train in Manhattan and take it to the end of the line, all the while participating in a writing workshop! I've been involved with NYWC, both as a volunteer and as a board member for six years, and it is a truly incredible organization that facilitates free creative writing workshops for under-served communities throughout New York City. These communities include at-risk youth, LGBT teens, war veterans, the homeless, the incarcerated, seniors, people with disabilities and more. NYWC is one of the largest organizations of its kind, serving over 1,000 people every year in approximately 40 different locations.

To celebrate this important ten-year milestone, on May 18th, NYWC is offering its particular brand of free workshops to the public -- at ten different fun, quirky and inspiring locations, including:

Central Park: Strawberry Fields, 4 p.m.
Staten Island Ferry Flash Mob Workshop: Departing from Whitehall
Terminal in Manhattan at 7:45 p.m.
Subway Flash Mob Workshop: Departing from the front of the Queens
Bound Number 7 Train platform at 42nd Street/Times Square at 2:30 p.m.
Brooklyn Bridge Park: Pier 1, Granite Prospect 2 p.m.
