David McCotter is a registered Republican-- a self-described "red neck with a shaved head" who owns a plumbing business in Durham, N.C. McCotter is one of the actual humans in what Hillary Clinton and many campaign pundits and pollsters have been referring to as a key "demographic" that has come to embrace the new regular-gal Hillary campaign and is less enthusiastic about supporting Barack Obama.
McCotter, though, says the candidates and their images matter less than the issues. As long as Obama addresses gas, crime and the economy, McCotter would have no problem voting for him. McCotter not only disagreed with Senator Clinton about Obama's viability with white working class men like himself, but was visibly annoyed by the suggestion that simply because he is white and an "average Joe," he would not vote for Senator Obama. "I'm sick of the race card. I don't even want to comment on that," he said.
"I voted for Jesse Helms and was proud to do it. I voted for Fared Ali... and he's as Black as any man I ever seen... It comes down to if they're gonna do the right thing for the country."
Check out a real-life hard-working white American rebut the core argument, for why Senator Clinton clings to a candidacy that is gone with the wind.

Who the heck is Fared Ali?
I'm from Durham as well, 21 years old and I have to say that I am not surprised. I know what this man is talking about when he expresses fear for his children growing up in the city. When I was a kid Durham was relatively safe, but corruption in the police department and the lack of interest in the community to help kids considered "on the brink" of failure has made this city a dangerous place. I'm not saying it is Sadr city by no means, but it has changed.
I have never met Mr. McCotter, but I would say he would represent the majority of people around Durham and the Triangle (Durham-Raleigh-Chapel Hill). Honest hard working people, and we don't like to be put in a certain category because we are from the south-east region of the United States.
By the way, if it matters I'm a mixed black and white (and many more) College Student citizen of the United States and Durham, North Carolina.
Thank you, David. So many of us are simply sick and tired of this race card. We need to get to work and start on the long road back to healing our beloved country.
P.S. David..that phone move I have done myself with my own daughter (who's 23 now and better).
I was laughing out loud when you did it because it was sooo smooth. :-)
The man makes a lot of sense to me. He seems like a smart, honest, regular guy. His concerns are the same I have for my family. I wish more Americans were as straight forward about what the country really needs as he has been. David...I ain't mad at ya...nuthin but luv for ya. From a Black , west coast, college educated, Democrat woman who kinda liked Mike Huckabee (except for the religion thing.)
Huckabee...me too (except for the religion thingy)
