Grayson Versus Palin: The Director's Cut

What's Your Reaction:

Ryan Grim wrote a great piece on my dust-up with Sarah Palin. More than 4000 of you commented, and more than 450 of you tweeted about it.

We actually have video of her speech.

And here is my full response.

"I got to meet quite a few candidates who are lining up in a contested primary who want to take out Alan Grayson. And I think Alan Grayson -- what can you say about Alan Grayson? Piper is with me tonight, so I won't say anything about Alan Grayson that can't be said around children. [Good one, Sarah!] But thank you, Florida, for allowing candidates in a contested primary to duke it out over ideas and principles and values, all with the same goal, and that is unseating those who have such a disconnect from the people of America. That's what the goal is here in this race against Alan Grayson. Please fight hard, and do this for the rest of the country. Fight hard, and send a conservative to Washington, DC."

Palin, the former half-term governor, current-nothing and future-even-less, charmed the all-Republican audience with her folksy folksiness and her homespun homespunnery. Atypically, Palin was wearing clothes that she had paid for herself. At the end of the event, she shared her recipe for mooseface pie.

In response to Palin's attack on Rep Grayson, Grayson actually complimented Palin. Grayson praised Palin for having a hand large enough to fit Grayson's entire name on it. He thanked Palin for alleviating the growing shortage of platitudes in Central Florida. Grayson added that Palin deserved credit for getting through the entire hour-long program without quitting. Grayson also said that Palin really had mastered Palin's imitation of Tina Fey imitating Palin. Grayson observed that Palin is the most-intelligent leader that the Republican Party has produced since George W. Bush.

When asked to comment about what effect Palin's criticism might have, Grayson pointed out, "As the Knave's horse says in Alice in Wonderland, 'dogs will believe anything.'" Earlier, as the Orlando Sentinel reported, Grayson said, "I'm sure Palin knows all about politics in Central Florida, since from her porch she can see Winter Park," which is part of Grayson's district.

Grayson said that the Alaskan chillbilly was welcome to return to Central Florida anytime, as long as she brings lots of money with her, and spends it. "I look forward to an honest debate with Governor Palin on the issues, in the unlikely event that she ever learns anything about them," Grayson added, alluding to Politifact's "liar, liar, pants on fire" evaluation of much of what Palin has said.

Scientists are studying Sarah Palin's travel between Alaska and Florida carefully. They hope to learn more about the flight patterns of that elusive migratory species, the wild Alaskan dingbat.

Help send a message that Sarah Palin won't soon forget. On March 27, we're going to drop another money bomb I need you to make a pledge to give to the campaign on that date. Together, we can beat back Sarah Palin and the special interests.

You gotta admit: unlike most other lawmakers, Grayson actually has a sense of humor.

Not to mention that he's spot-on his target!

I think that a sense of humor is related to intelligence. Smart, funny and compassionate. Is he married?

Palin's very popularity with conservatives is the best evidence of the traumatized state of the Republican Party. Palin is a vacuous, reactionary clown and is an exact mirror of her supporters. She is their Alice and they are through the looking glass. The Democratic party should take note of the ample evidence of how to be an effective democratic leader and congress member that has been provided by Alan Grayson. He understands that good policy comes from the heart, not the corporate lobbyist.. He also knows that the corruption in Congress is not widely reported or known but this Corporate/Congress marriage is the greatest threat to our Constitutional Democracy since the civil war. Make no mistake about it. I humbly thankyou, Alan, for your intellect and tireless efforts. We are a better Country because of people like you!

Hard to pick a favorite zinger, but I think I'll go with "folksy folksiness and homespun homespunnery."

If a loud-but-tiny sliver of the American electorate is going to continue giving Palin their ear, then the rest of us need someone like Alan Grayson around to keep reminding us that she is a JOKE.

What a wonderful and honest response. I laughed myself silly. You are so absolutely correct on all fronts and have put Palin in her place as another dingbat for sure. I never thought we could do as bad as Bush ever again, but I was wrong. I can't even imagine in a dream this woman being my vice president right now. Somebody high up in the universe saved our lives when they sent us Obama. Thank you so much whoever you are. We will be forever grateful for your help during our time of misdirection and much pain. We didn't know which way to turn for truth any longer. It was all a maze and a matrix of lies. Grayson is one of those modern day saints sent to us to assist in changing our direction back to believing in the goodness of life and knowing that things can eventually be changed once again for the better for everyone.

Thank you so much Mr. Grayson. You will forever be in my prayers to protect you wherever you go. We needed you so much and there's such an aura of light surrounding you and Obama. Such goodness needs to prevail.

Love,
EB

Absolutely love this guy.

His moxie, his ability to cut right to the truth, and his wonderful dry sense of humor.

I'm stuck in MN in (wait for it!) Michele Bachmann's district.

Please feel sorry for me. chuckles.
