The Impeachment Imperative

The bottom line is that many voters who are overwhelmingly against the war must still be nurtured to reach the conclusion that this identified evil must be ended with a troop withdrawal.

Achtung! Troops now hear this! Bush war-extension victory not a total loss. Check the vote count! Waters-Woolsey freshmen "No" votes outnumber Emanuel freshmen "Yes" votes. Public troop
loyalty lag still a problem. Danger of a Lieberman coalition (hardcore Republicans and confused Democrats) counterattack very real. Impeachment second front must be opened immediately. Remember the Florida robbery of 2000. Consider the over-confidence and Ohio ambush of 2004. Progressive caution is our greatest enemy. Open the second front!

The vote which capitulated to George Bush's continuation of the war was not a total loss -- and was more than a mere moral victory for peace warriors. Fortunately, none of the silly pressures that have been applied in similar past situations were attempted even covertly. No sentimental all together "Yes" vote was proposed in order to demonstrate party unity and solidarity even in defeat. "Division" was left alone to occupy its own special spotlight. Peace supporters should rush to reward the heroes starting with the freshmen. The Waters-Woolsey freshmen all voted "No" dramatically reminding everyone that they know how they got elected. The Emanuel freshmen followed their leader and voted "Yes."

Reward the brave and clearheaded. End the smothering indiscriminate condemnation of all Democrats. If the exhausted troops on the beach at Dunkirk had begun to fight among themselves, World War II would have been lost in its earliest stages. Energies now must be redirected and mobilized to open the second front: The Impeachment Imperative.

Peace strategies must honestly confront the fact that there is still an effective smokescreen over the national landscape. The bottom line is that many voters who are overwhelmingly against the war must still be nurtured to reach the conclusion that this identified evil must be ended with a troop withdrawal. Peace fighters must immediately assault this fortress of confusion. Be warned that there is an opposing force of the Lieberman coalition (hardcore Republicans and confused Democrats) hiding in the hedges waiting for the opportunity to hijack the wavering segment of fuzzy-minded Democrats.

The one great cure, the only certain remedy for the epidemic of massive fuzzy-mindedness is an immediate launching of impeachment proceedings. Opening the impeachment front is as important to the winning of the peace in Iraq as the launching of the Normandy invasion on D-Day was for WW2. Our refusal to use this strategy is a reckless blunder of omission. Never mind the timetable technicalities. Let there be an impeachment, an indictment, even if there is no time left for a Senate trial. Leave it to history to be the judge and jury.

Nothing would focus the American mind and foster clarifications like an impeachment proceeding. Impeachment permits a consolidation of all of the evil blunders. Blooming like a hundred flowers Democrat-led hearings in great numbers are adding up to a laudable sincerity and noble energy which have very little impact on voter consciousness and are in danger of producing a new apathy caused by news overload and listening weariness. Instead of encouraging a trivialization of the investigations, impeachment proceedings would confront the media with a serious event of national significance which cannot be ignored or dismissed with a few lines of commentary. For each household, each day, the impeachment report would be a prime news event.

Impeachment would also command the priority attention of the best Republican minds and divert them away from their spin farms and electioneering plots already under way. In the absence of an impeachment the Republicans will brainwash current voters and bequeath to our posterity the following impressions:
  • That Dick Cheney is a business genius whose blind trusts are accumulating championship record-breaking amounts of income.
  • That neo-con warmonger Paul Wolfowitz is a romantic, noble lover who sacrificed his career at the World Bank for the honor of his "girlfriend."
  • That Don (Stuff Happens, Shock and Awe) Rumsfeld is a grand old patriot soldier who has gotten no public gratitude for his exhausting effort to defend the U.S.A.
  • That George Bush, the clean-cut cowboy from Texas that all would enjoy having a beer with, unselfishly gave up a good life and accepted a draft to serve and save his country from the forces of irresponsibility and destruction.
