In little more than two weeks, federal unemployment insurance will begin to expire. And almost immediately, the impact would be felt throughout the country. By Feb. 18, more than 2 million Americans will have lost their unemployment insurance, a weekly benefit that -- while averaging just $300 -- provides vital assistance as the jobless look for work.

In a video message I recorded today, I urged the unemployed to continue to speak up in support of an extension of unemployment insurance. They have shared their stories loudly and clearly, but the only ones not yet listening are the Republicans in Congress. While they have fought tooth and nail to protect the wealthiest Americans, when it comes to average Americans struggling to gain their footing in the worst economic climate since the Great Depression, they turn the other way.

The louder the unemployed speak, the harder it is for Republicans in Congress to ignore them. It's vital that Republicans hear their voices. It is more important than ever.

I encourage you to visit the Extend Unemployment Insurance Facebook page that we launched in October and already has hundreds of followers.
