Introducing a New Holiday: "Totally Honest with Yourself Week"

Ah, spring. A time to clean your house, but in my own way of thinking: Let's start to celebrate a new holiday this year in honor of what I'm dubbing Spring Cleaning for Our Souls: So it's Totally Honest with Yourself Week!

Springtime appears to be just about upon us in New York, a town of broken promises, well-spent dreams, and lit-up boulevards. The snow is gone, the tourists are back - did they ever actually leave - and the musty air once again smells like... uh... New York.

Ah, spring. A time to clean your house, but in my own way of thinking: Let's start to celebrate a new holiday this year in honor of what I'm dubbing Spring Cleaning for Our Souls:

So it's Totally Honest with Yourself Week!

All of us have to have parts of ourselves we aren't happy with, or do things that objectively make no sense. This special holiday is the time to take a step back, a deep breath, and give ourselves a chance to say them out loud - and to fix them.

Here are some examples of times when self-honesty does some good. See if any of the below hit home with you. Be honest.:

  • Do you sign up and pay for the chance to get an award when you know in your heart you won't win and that it's a serious moneymaker for the awarder?
  • Do you navel-gaze when there is work to be done?
  • Do you agree with what someone says, but secretly think "That's just stupid!"?
  • Are you in a job you hate but love to tell people you are really into?
  • Are you in a relationship that is strictly going nowhere, albeit slowly and with some great sexual undertones?
  • Do you just want to stay in some nights - despite the fact you do what "the gang" is doing?
  • Are you getting fatter than you thought when you said "Oh I can let myself go a little"?
  • Are you living your life the way other people think you ought to be doing it?
  • This week isn't about solving all problems; it's not that kind of holiday. THWYW is in fact a real life, real time, finite, active, all-out celebration of you: a guy or gal with a free mind, willing to at least take first steps toward getting what you really want.

Is it going to be easy?

    Gee, what do you think?

But is anything worth celebrating really easy?
