President Obama names Court of Appeals Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. What does Sotomayor mean in Spanish? Twofer -- Woman and Latina. But historic? How about same ol', same ol'? Princeton University, Yale Law School.

Conservatives continue campaign against nominee. Continue, you ask? When did it begin? May 1, the day Justice Souter resigned.

Conservative hard-liner Richard Vigurie says conservatives outside government will lead fight against nominee. That's because they don't have to get elected, like Republican incumbents.

In introducing Sotomayor, Obama said her father "passed away." She said in her acceptance that her dad "died." I like her already.

So, first Hispanic woman nominated to Supreme Court. First black named to head NASA. First black woman named Playmate of the Year. First black woman named to head major US Corporation-Xerox. Known as the Obama domino theory.

Obama announces tough new emission standards for automobiles to take effect in 2012. Assuming there are still any US car companies in business by then.

Obama also announces credit card reform. Which means they can still screw you, but they have to tell you first.

In commencement speech at the US Naval Academy, Obama says "I will only send you into harm's way when it is absolutely necessary, and with the strategy, well-defined goals, the equipment and the support and the equipment you need to get the job done." Gee, wonder why he said that?

Obama also gives speech condemning torture. Former VP Cheney defends interrogation tactics as "legal, essential, justified, successful and the right thing to do." Isn't there some way to return Cheney to "undisclosed locations"?

Cheney emerging as spokesperson for party out of power. Way out of power. Maybe he thinks he's still President?

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says he's still a Republican and that Cheney and Rush Limbaugh are not members of the "membership committee of the GOP." Democrats say yes they are.

Powell approval ratings in public opinion polls higher than those of Cheney and Limbaugh combined. Conservatives respond they'd rather be right-wing than right.

North Korea conducts underground nuclear test. Obama says US will "take action" against North Korea. China says it's "resolutely opposed" to test. Japan protests. Russia criticizes. UN Security Council condemns. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Mike Huckabee pens "poem" lampooning Nancy Pelosi. Poem? Rhyme without reason. Or meter. Better stick to your day job, Mike, whatever that is.
