Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has finally crossed the line to complete delusion. He succeeds so fully in gaining bootlicking adoration from the national media that he now actually believes that he can solve the California fiscal train wreck via press events and 60 Minutes appearances. As Speaker of the Assembly Karen Bass says, "(Since) he is in press conference/campaign mode, it is hard to figure out how to convince the Governor to accept a responsible compromise."
The governor is happy to fire state workers, cut healthcare, slam the door on public education and even double cross himself on environmental laws, all in the name of his ego, not leadership.
Governor Schwarzenegger likes to watch movies, especially of himself. So with help from Ronald Reagan, Maria Shriver, George Bush and Charles Dickens, Courage Campaign and our friends at Donkey on the Edge presented this California Carol to more than 300,000 of our members in time for the Christmas Arnold wants to give us all. Arnold is giving George Bush a run for his money on the "who wants to be a Herbert Hoover?" show.

I and my partner left Fl after the 2000 fraud and moved to a little farm in the woods as a response to the coming or now present economic crisis. We lost our home there and jobs after 9/11 due to partners job being flushed overseas twice in about 6 months and I got to sick to work.
We figured that we would find a place that was cheap (especially by Ca and Fl standards)
I looked long and hard and found an abandoned place that the folks just walked away from, cheap
and is making a dandy organic farm.
We will be able to eat well, and extra will go for to Second Harvest food bank.
With out them we would have starved, literally.
As far as I can see electing an R to any government is a mistake.
OH and incidentally, we don't pay that much in taxes. So stop crying. When you live in a state that provided free a college education, free hospital care, the best freeway system in the world, a large national guard, politicians with large incomes, large pension benefit that match their regular pay, large university and college system. resources that pump vast amounts of water into this desert, well its expensive. Powers is also expensive. And we can't get enough. Well these things cost money and no one wants to pay for it. If you mention taxes in this state you could get assassinated. Well the welfare services were cut off, and guess what, people found out it was not the big drain on the system that everyone thought it was. San Diego County has people who want to live out in the wilderness, but it cost a lot of money to place structures out in those areas where they want to live. Of course those folks don't want to pay for those materials. But the law makes it happen with out any cost study's. Next thing we get sued because someone get hurt. And the settlements are just outrageous. The people out here are like children playing in a sandbox. Californians are out to lunch when it comes to responsibility.
I live in California and i think Arnie is the worst Governor we ever had. Anrnie got the the state house on the basis of his action hero movies. He has not clue about how to govern. He does not know how to negotiate. and his attitude is ok l can't fix its but nor can you. The problem with candidates with business backgrounds are that in their training, if you don't sell something write it off. We governmental entities are not like that. Their source of revenues are tax basis, enterprise funds, your know property, income, usage taxes. Its a very different program. Its interesting, Gray Davis is probably enjoying this. Arnie has come up to face his own incompetence. Its seems no one in California wants to wake up from the dream, we have to pay taxes and the bill in going to be very large.
The amazing thing for me about Schwarzenegger is that his current woes largely stem from his inability to marshall his own party to reach an acceptable budget. Basically, the California GOP (especially its Orange County wing) is holding the state hostage and Schwarzenegger has been totally unable to do anything about it.
This from a man who once inspired the national GOP to talk of amending the constitution so that foreign born American citizens could become president. Well, both the party and Arnie himself can forget that. This budget mess is akin to Carter's handling of the Iran hostage crisis, rendering what many thought a powerful man effectively impotent.
Somethings gotta give.... I say tax the wealthy in the financial sector...especially the ones who caused the housing bubble. Make them pay back the billions in profits made on their speculative value of home. That's where the money went!
It's time for everyone who made millions off of other peoples sweat and paychecks to do the right thing and save this economy for themselves and the greater society.
California is the highest taxed state. Why should we continue to raise taxes? Government should make due on what they are given period.
The first thing California needs to do is deport all the ILLEGAL ALIENS that live here. We also need to revamp the fire and police retirement. When is getting 100% of you pay when you retire actually doable? We do need to cut a lot of programs that don't work and are insane. The number of students in CA has dropped but the amount of money given to education has increased. There is plenty of money in education we just need to use it wisely and cut programs that aren't needed. Take the money you are given and make it work. California has never done that - all agencies have their hands out all the time. Make due with what we have. It can be done.
"The first thing California needs to do is deport all the ILLEGAL ALIENS that live here"
Agreed, but that is a national responsibility and neither party is going to do anything about it. Obama basically owes the hispanic community for his election. The GOP likes cheap labor and it sees the hispanic community as a growing electoral force that they can no longer afford to anger or discount.
Local attempts to deal with illegal immigrants have been thrown out on separation of powers grounds.
It sucks to see what used to be nice working class communities taken into the dumper by illegal immigration and its attendant crime and poverty, but unless the hispanic community itself starts to value America over their ethnicity and their nostalgia for Mexico itself, the situation is likely to worsen.
If you deport all of the undocumented workers the price you pay for food will increase by at least 25% because there won't be anyone to work the harvest. And that's just one of the many sectors of the economy that use undocumented workers to keep costs down. Why do you think the Republicans don't do anything about the issue?
That's not a true statement. We could get more guest workers. Why not just go back to slavery and we could make our food even cheaper? All ILLEGAL ALIENS no matter where they come from or what kind of work they do here need to be deported. The cost to support ILLEGAL ALIENS is much higher than the benifits. We spend BILLIONS to educated and provide health care to people who don't belong here.
This is classic!
As a Californian all I can say about this is "This is funny!" No different form JIBJAB I can see....except no music
I can tell you one problem with California and the Governor.
AT&T has been violating laws with impunity, and the CPUC is turning a blind eye.
It has some things in common with the WorldCom scandel. Where I live, AT&T has lost half of its marketshare to Comcast, AT&T is laying off its employees, and AT&T keeps calling me, asking me to come back. AT&T stock prices are plummeting.
In court documents, AT&T committed perjury to conceal its violating laws and altering repair records. The fines for violating laws could exceed $200 million -- the money would go to the California State General Fund. The Governor's Office refuses to do anything -- I hope Obama will.

This is just standard GOP ideology at work, never mind that it drowns America
wow - is this for real? If it is satire, it should be clearly stated.
