In case you didn't know, today is World Elephant Day. As we celebrate a species that manages to be scared of mice yet can also weigh up to six tons, here are some pictures to make you smile and appreciate the beloved gentle giants.

All these elephants are in our care at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a not-for-profit that works in Kenya. Through our Orphans' Project, we rescue and hand-rear orphaned milk-dependent baby elephants, rehabilitating them to a life back in the wild when grown. As we share our love for a species that needs our help (an elephant is killed every 15 minutes for its ivory), here are some pictures from the orphans in our care that we think, will make you smile, as even though they have endured a tragic start to life, losing their wild mothers, they have been afforded a second chance -- there is hope.
