I think the biggest misconception about the political "landscape" is the whole Left-Right argument. What is the Middle? Webster's says it's "equally distant from extremes or limits." A place of equality and balance. What do the Democrats really want? Equality and balance. Equality on racial issues, gender issues, religious issues and class issues. Equally affordable health care. Equal education for all. A balanced environmental policy. A balanced budget. Equality in wages and opportunities between men and women of all races. Equality in the right to vote, right to choose and the freedom to express ones beliefs. These are positions of a balanced Middle. However, when the "Right" points at the position of balance and calls it the "Left," they create a false Middle to the Right of Center. That is why we have the gross distortions in politics that make people believe there are two sides. There are not. The Democrats are the true Middle, and it's time the "Left" start acting like the party of Balance and Equality they really are. The Right is so dangerously off-mainstream that their only chance of survival is keeping up the illusion of the false Middle. They are in fact anti-equality and it's time the Democrats show how out of balance they truly are. Equal rights = true democracy.
