I love these peeps!
When I received the email inviting me to take part in the "Talk to Me" series, my first thought was ... "My God, this could get me into all kinds of trouble." Then, I thought of all the conversations I had with my grandmothers over the years and wished that I could have just one more with them. I know I drove them crazy asking them all kinds of questions as I grew out of my egocentric teens into my twenties. They imparted so much wisdom -- and they weren't even trying to do so. I am so thankful we had those talks.
Both sets of my grandparents lived a good drive away from my hometown which meant we had a lot of time in the car every time we went to see them. Like clockwork, my sister Caroline would fall asleep within minutes of leaving our house and wake up as soon as we got to our destination. Meanwhile, I "rode hump" and basically tortured my parents listening to everything they said and adding my two cents for hours on end.
What I'm getting at is that I have been partaking in the "Talk to Me" program for YEARS! As a result, I think I had a great relationship with my grandparents and I think my parents would agree that we are pretty tight. When thinking about his project with my own kids, I wasn't so sure there was much I haven't told them. They came up with some of their own questions and sure enough, I think they did learn a few new things about me. While only two of my kiddos were up for the interview, I'm nauseatingly proud of all three...
Hopefully, I'll be able to get at least one of my own parents to participate in this as well. Here's hoping!
