Our newly-elected President has devoted his first major post-election address to gloating over how fantastically he had won it.

Appearing on Friday's Fox News Network, Trump treated us to an almost two-hour, state-by-state, electoral college account of how he had destroyed "crooked" Hillary, and how he was now going to restore an old World War II policy-- rejected as "isolationist" for almost a century now--known as "America First."

Pointing to many members in the crowd as if he knew (and loved) them personally, the Donald seemed prepared to physically embrace every single citizen who had ever appeared at one of his rallies, as well as to fawn over each and every one of their resident states. He had clearly memorized all the (admittedly inaccurate) poll numbers that had mistakenly given the election to Hillary, and was now taking the mickey out of the pollsters, the press, and the networks for having prejudged and prejudiced the results.

Trump managed to squeeze in a few policy promises about jobs, walls, and taxes among his diatribes, but essentially this speech was payoff time, and the major question is how long the man will continue to demand his reparations instead of pursuing his yet-to-be developed policies.

All this leads one to believe that Donald Trump represents an almost classic case of narcissism, a weakness that makes him particularly susceptible to flattery and even more vulnerable to criticism. These weaknesses explain his choice of angry tweeting as a means of exchange in place of serious forums like the press conference. My guess is that either such fact-finding assemblies will soon be a thing of the past, or that Trump will have hostile questioners ejected from the room.

Any of these possibilities give further evidence of what seems to be a growing totalitarianism in our land which this election has gone a long way towards creating. Beware!
