The Australian twin sisters who attempted a double suicide at a gun range near Denver have been identified as Candice and Kristin Hermeler. Candace lived. Kristen died.

Media reports said a search of their belongings turned up newspaper clips on the Columbine High School Massacre, which occurred April 20, 1999 in nearby Littleton.

The Columbine students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killed 12 fellow students and a teacher, before killing themselves as SWAT teams waited outside the school.

Candace remained in serious condition at a nearby hospital after the Monday shootings. The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office only released their names after their parents arrived after flying 9,000 miles from Australia. On their way they didn't know for sure which one had lived and which one died.

Candace told investigators they had decided on the suicide pact. She gave no clue why.
