The Forged Iraqi Letter: What Just Happened?

What just happened? Evidence. A secret that has been judiciously kept for five years just spilled out. All of what follows is new, never reported in any way:

The Iraq Intelligence Chief, Tahir Jalil Habbush -- a man still carrying a $1 million reward for capture, the Jack of Diamonds in Bush's famous deck of wanted men -- has been America's secret source on Iraq. Starting in January of 2003, with Blair and Bush watching, his secret reports began to flow to officials on both sides of the Atlantic, saying that there were no WMD and that Hussein was acting so odd because of fear that the Iranians would find out he was a toothless tiger. The U.S. deep-sixed the intelligence report in February, "resettled" Habbush to a safe house in Jordan during the invasion and then paid him $5 million in what could only be considered hush money.

In the fall of 2003, after the world learned there were no WMD -- as Habbush had foretold -- the White House ordered the CIA to carry out a deception. The mission: create a handwritten letter, dated July, 2001, from Habbush to Saddam saying that Atta trained in Iraq before the attacks and the Saddam was buying yellow cake for Niger with help from a "small team from the al Qaeda organization."

The mission was carried out, the letter was created, popped up in Baghdad, and roiled the global newcycles in December, 2003 (conning even venerable journalists like Tom Brokaw). The mission is a statutory violation of the charter of the CIA, and amendments added in 1991, prohibiting the CIA from conducting disinformation campaigns on U.S. soil.

So, here we go again: the administration is in full attack mode, calling me names, George Tenet is claiming he doesn't remember any such thing -- just like he couldn't remember "slam dunk" -- and reporters are scratching their heads. Everything in my book is on the record, with many sources. And so, we watch and wait....

What just happened? Evidence. A secret that has been judiciously kept for five years just spilled out. All of what follows is new, never reported in any way: The Iraq Intelligence Chief, Tahir Jalil...

Hardball spent the entire hour Friday on the Edwards Affair. When have they ever spent the hour examining the multiple "smoking guns" that prove Bush and the Administration lied us into war, and have continued to falsify evidence to advantage themselves politically ever since?

A Whole Different Level:

If your witnesses will make statements under oath, this is more important than Clinton's lie to the grand jury or Nixon's destruction of evidence. This is part of the package which has cost over 4,000 coalition troop lives and at least 100,000 Iraqi lives.

This is not just some smear or just another scandal. It's a war crime which has cost at least 25 times as many lives as the attacks of 9/11.

I urge you to arrange for sworn statements. And then find a way to present the evidence to a court which can act.

Will someone please explain to me why George WB et al are not being impeached?

I have found some of these posts to be very touching. As an outsider, there's not much I can do. But know this Obamacans, the WHOLE World is fighting and rooting for you to make the changes you have to make in your Government. We are l00% behind you and we are watching your backs for you. Be strong. Do not give up. Encourage one another. You'll surly make it!

I doubt if too many Americans really care how we got in this mess even though the reasons our leaders gave us were lies. The reason I say this is because there is no draft presently that would snare young people into this mess. If there was an effective draft, unlike during Nam when our wise-guys hid in college or the Air National Guard cheering the troops from afar, perhaps then we would see a re-visitation of the 60s riots and demonstrations. But since our forces today disproportionately consist of the nation's economic under-class some may believe they are expendable.

Secrets reveal nothing if the press won't repeat them and Congress will not acknowledge them.

What we know from all this is that America has been successfully subjugated by a fascist cabal.
09:57 PM on 08/10/2008
You are correct. It is truly shameful of the press and congress. I am certain that if the resident were asked why it was done, the response would be that God made me do it....sure, yeah, right.

Interesting that the only terrorist WMD used against America came from a U.S. Army biological weapons lab, isn't it? Maybe we should be a little more concerned about Pentagono-fascism than "Isalmo-fascism," eh?

So now Ron Suskind ends his letter with The evidence is in and now we watch and wait. For what? For these guys to come to some international Nuremburg trial they deserve? For 4100 dead soliders to rise up from their grave to say 'I accuse" ? Wait for what? These international adventurers are going to walk. End of story. And they take our national pride and reputation with them to the trash heap.

Well, perhaps it's time for 300 million Americans to stand up and say "I accuse". I will, if you will. I'll send a letter to the White House and to my senators and congressmen with just those words. I might even write them in French.

It'll cost two dollars in stamps... but I will not have been silent.

Unfortunately, all we have right now is Mr. Suskind's word. If his evidence can be independently verified to the extent that it's an open and shut case, then perhaps even our current Congress would move forward with due process against those accused.

Mr. Suskind projects an air of complete confidence regarding his evidence. When and if others begin to do the same, that might yet be a reason for hope.
05:16 PM on 08/10/2008
Suskind needs to get the evidence out there...it sure as hell isn't doing any good just talking about it.

It will take the Congress to unearth that evidence. They are the only entity in this country with authority to flip this creature on its back and get at the soft parts. The question is whether they have the stomach for the fight.

I am currently reading your book, but I can only read it in small doses because it makes me so angry. I find myself stomping around the house muttering under my breath.

It's Cheney, isn't it? It's always been Cheney. The man behind the curtain manipulating Bush, feeding his ego, saying what Bush wants to hear, but always, ALWAYS Cheney pulling the strings.

We've had a shadow government for 8 years, with a cardboard leader run by a scheming, manipulative, thoroughly evil puppetmaster.

And all the time that perpetual sneer on his face and that arrogant "So?" response to those who dare to question him.

How could we have been so STUPID ???????

"It's Cheney, isn't it? It's always been Cheney."

Uh-huh. Richard Bruce Cheney, one of the truly evil men of American political history, has been longing for the return of the Imperial Presidency ever since his hero Tricky Dick was forced to resign. He knew he could never become president himself because of his slimy associations and his generally repugnant appearance and personality, so he found himself a complacent clown whom he could manipulate and managed to manipulate him into the White House with the help of a corrupt Supreme Court.

Richard Bruce Cheney should be indicted and tried for multiple crimes, including treason, but it will never happen because the Democrats in Congress have no huevos.

I've said repeatedly that as former head of the CIA he certainly knows where the bodies are hidden and the coins are cached. And it's becoming much clearer to me that he has no problem whatsoever using this knowledge.

I had forgotten that he was a Nixon crony.... although, had I thought about it, I should have guessed. Those kinds of people never really disappear, do they?
02:33 PM on 08/10/2008
I am saddened for the over 4,000 soldiers that have been killed, I am saddened for over 30,000 of them wounded, I am saddened for all the families that have been destroyed. Ron, you did the right thing and the American people know it. We are just having a hard to believing the people we trusted would do us in. It was never about us It was always about them. BUSH/Cheney how do you sleep at night. On your death beds we don't need the confession. We already have the answers.

America is eternally doomed. Brought to ruin by a bunch of cowboys.

Are we DEVO? Why yes we are.

Time to move away from this god forsaken country of Idiots and Ignorance.

I am outta here before military rule sets in.... Oh, you can believe its coming... Right after the next 911 that the GOP is planning right before election time... Unless they are sure that McBush is getting in..

Oh, i forgot, DIABOLD, the company that makes our paperless voting machines, is one of the GOPs larger endorsers...

This country is so sunk.

Finally!! Even our comatose Congress would have difficulty ignoring this development. When the vice-president's office is forging papers to directly lie to the American people about a link between al-Qaeda and Iraq it must be an impeachable office. It also shows how Bush is not in command of his own presidency. This evidence must be pursued and the guilty must be brought to justice. Finally, the slippery Feith, who has made a public service career out of lying, and Cheney may face charges. Otherwise, we lose our democracy.
02:13 PM on 08/10/2008
A Comatose Congress is exactly what we will have...

The powers that be are so well entrenched... We should have stopped this insanity back in 2004, and not let the GOP tamper with our voting process... We should have nipped it in the bid then...

Yes...of course you're right. We should have, but we didn't.

At least if we can have an overwhelming blowout vote and purge ourselves of these horrendous, evil people, maybe, just maybe, we can regain some respect from the rest of the world.

The American people are not as we have been portrayed in recent years. We are, in most part, a decent and charitable population. We often send more money in disaster relief than the rest of the world combined. And yet, look what these "evildoers" have done to us. Bush has only to look in the mirror to find the real "evildoer".
05:44 PM on 08/10/2008
Do you really believe our congress is comatose, and not complicit? Because I believe this much incompetence is incompatible with life itself, and many of them appear to be breathing!
01:46 PM on 08/10/2008
You are putting the spineless dems in a tough spot.

They may actually have to do something on accountabilty.

They will find some loop hole to keep giving them a free pass.

They are above the law ya know.
04:10 PM on 08/10/2008
But...but...but...goatlife YOU support them! Now you admit you know they're slime and you support them anyway!

So, what's it like to carry the water for the sociopathic party?
05:45 PM on 08/10/2008
Any member of either party can likely answer your question. Personally, I don't like the murderers or their enablers, but that's apparently a minority position.
