Amerikkka's Last Stand

Posted: 04/ 9/2012 6:04 pm

My unshakeable belief in the power of encouragement, compassion and patience is what allows me to have constructive dialogue with people from all walks of life. All I know is that if you want to find success in this world, you better always be looking to build on the common threads you share with people. Some of the toughest bridges to build in this country remain those that span our racial divides. I'll concede that promoting tolerance over fear and rigidness can be daunting. But, let us take notice, there are some people in our country who are fighting with every ounce of energy that they have to promote hate, racism and bigotry. I want to warn them now, that anyone whose mission is keeping people apart is swimming against a very strong tide.

Charles Dickens began A Tale Of Two Cities, with a line that speaks to the past few weeks, " It was the best of times, it was the worst of times... " We have seen incredible unity surrounding the death of Trayvon Martin, while at the same time we have seen some use his death as an opportunity to continue to spew vile hate. Just this past weekend we saw the community of North Tulsa terrorized by two white suspects who allegedly killed three black men and injured two others... and on one of their facebook pages, the words "fucking n**ger" were written. The KKK has decided to show up in Sanford, Florida to patrol the streets. Someone near Detroit changed an electronic road sign to read "Trayvon is a n**ger." We have seen a rise in hatred in this country ever since President Obama took office. It seems like the hate-mongers woke up one day and realized, "we got a n*gger in the White House," so let's bring this country down. This is their last stand. This is the last battle we must fight. But, let us not forget the most effective and easiest way to change people is through love.

Barack Obama inspired this nation to strive for a more perfect union, when he ran for President in 2008. In his now famous speech on race that he gave in Philadelphia at the height of us his election against Hillary Clinton, he told us,

This union may never be perfect, but generation after generation has shown that it can always be perfected. And today, whenever I find myself feeling doubtful or cynical about this possibility, what gives me the most hope is the next generation -- the young people whose attitudes and beliefs and openness to change have already made history in this election.
These words and his actions during his presidency, along with the actions of hundreds of millions of patriotic Americans have allowed us to envision an America that looks beyond race, that celebrates our rich diversity and that heals from the deep wounds we have suffered in the past.

My two beautiful daughters are multi-racial. My grandchildren will be multi-racial. And my grandchildren's grandchildren will be multi-racial. This is what America, the beautiful is becoming. A country of sons and daughters that are made up of the pot that will truly be melted. We must endure the last attempts to stop us. We must fight against the few that think their voice of hate matters. We must fight the hatred with compassion, love and resilience. For if we overcome this obstacle in our path towards equality, our nation will be the beacon of hope that we all aspire for her to be.

We can't address the racial divide in this country while ignoring the elephant in the room. Interracial violent crimes occur every day in America with the vast majority involving white victims and black perpetrators. Whether the motivation behind these crimes is one of opportunity or racial hatred, the outcome is the same- fear is cast. Division spurred. Addressing only white racism while turning a blind eye to racial violence directed at whites will further the divide. If we're going to end racism it must be addessed on all fronts, in all forms.

This is with all due respect towards Mr. Simmons who I've regarded highly since I was a young kid.

You're delusional! Whites commit the most violent crimes in this country being that we're the majority. According to Justice Department statistics, 84 percent of white people killed every year are killed by other whites. Whites have been directly responsible for the deaths of more than 100 million Blacks over last 400+ years. I suggest that you go and read and do thorough research before you start spewing your fox news nonsense. White on White crimes is just as real as white on Black crimes - http://www.theroot.com/views/why-don-t-we-talk-about-white-white-crime?page=0,0. White racism has been around for too long and it's time for us to stop our nonsense and get with the 21st century. The people we're hating don't even retaliate.

Excellent and so true Mr. Simmons. To those who cannot see the forest for the trees, and continue to try to pass the buck(so to speak), yes racism exists in all races, so instead of you did it, no you did it, I would say like children, but children see no color, until they are told to. Seeing the negative in everything, (how's that working for you), is exhausting.

"anyone whose mission is keeping people apart is swimming against a very strong tide." And FUBU stands for what again? By "us" you obviously mean ALL of us of course, so you're cool with FUBU meaning - for white guys by white guys. Right. I guess divisiveness is in the eye of the beholder. I always get these 2 mixed up. Is it hypocrisy or a double standard to create a culture of race separation and simultaneously condemn others for doing the same thing?

I am against Obama not because he is black, but because he is inept and clueless.

You did forget to mention the racial hatred of Rev. Al Sharpton, The New Black Panther Party, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, Kamau Kambon, Rev. Wright, Omar Thornton, thuggish, black rap singers who hate women as well.....my, my the list is certainly long.

An don't black people use the "N" word quite a bit as well?

Good writing is fair and balanced, or is that concept alien to you?

"Racial hatred of" , dirtydog1776 this is far from the truth inregards to The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. Here is a man that has a track record of love and service to humanity. You are way off base with your comment. Brother Farrakhan save my life with a word coming from God. You should do some research before you make such false accusations about a Honorable Man!!!

Wow, Russell, I never realized you were such a prolific writer.
I'll be following you now.

A great piece of work.
Thank you for that.

Yesd, this case sure showed us the many ignorant haters on BOTH sides (Russ has good points but only seems to talk about the bad on one side here).

It is the last stand for them. That is why republican voters are voting agaisnt their interest because they know the stakes. Why else would a middle class or poor republican vote in favor of wall street having less regulation, or vote in favor of insurance companies being able to drop you at any point or deny based on pre-existing conditions. Someone needs to explain why a republican making 50K would fight tooth and nail so that a person making 1 million does not pay .5 percent of every dollar of over 1 million to help with infastructure and jobs.

Why would a republican living in mifddle america want to loosen environemtal regulations on big multi national corporations to pollute at will?

The list goes on and on.

Do not be fooled they know the stakes.

I would say you are voting against your own best interest.
12:04 AM on 04/15/2012
Because people on the extreme left consider anybody who makes 50K or more to be part of the 1%. The middle class is the nations piggy bank.
11:51 AM on 04/11/2012
hey Russell, you forgot to mention Sharpton, Jackson, BPP, Van Jones, Holder, etc. These people are doing nothing to improve relations, they are only fanning the flames. In the past it was a one way street, now It's a two way street!

Talking about a issue fans the flames? really?

They said the same thing about MLK. The exact same thing.
07:30 PM on 04/11/2012
"Talking" about an issue is one thing. These guys incite hatred and bigotry at every opportunity.
07:20 AM on 04/12/2012
It's HOW some of these idiots (and some ARE idiots) talk about it. If a white guy said what they say (in reverse) he'd be ostracized by the vast majority of whites and blacks.

If it wasn't for racism and bigotry, these people would starve to death or have to go on welfare.
10:59 AM on 04/11/2012
Good ideas...we just must be vigilant that our resistance does not put us into the other camp! Compassion, love, tenderness and forgiveness WORKS!

That racism lives in a society proclaiming in a highly held 'charter of rights' a proclamation of 'equality for all' - that prejudice survives where nothing else planted could - that Mr. King and countless other members of the greatest and only race on the planet --- namely - the human race had their lives cut down for standing up and saying what was in all our hearts - all our minds . . . (the sane ones amongst us at least) . . . How can I possibly express - having not endured such terror in erroneous judgement the conviction placed upon innocent humans, the shame and remorse I feel for all white society preceding my introduction to the world. I cannot change what has been done. I understand the anger, and I pray somehow there will arise a society better than Martin could have dreamed that places value on value and not upon tainted perception and inbred preconception.
If this is the infancy of mankind's existence upon Planet Earth, perhaps It is time for us all to grow up a little and try to get along and be the best we all can be. Together - we are a force in the universe; divided, we are no more than a cosmic fart - hardly worth raising a stink about.

I totally agree with you. This is a thought-provoking post. It's a shame that more people don't feel the way you do. Cheers!

Words spoken from a pure heart, an angle that's living amoungst hate and evil, God has touch you longer than most, me included. I pray to be able to think and speake as well.... God bless. Would be a better world with people like you, especially if they made the LAWS.
02:56 AM on 04/11/2012
Only read the first paragraph before I realized that these people who hate and try to separate folks are desperate at this point. For them it's a losing battle. America is coming around, slowly but surely. This is a good thing. But it makes the bigot fight harder. And that is the bad. It could get much uglier. Like a drowning man grasping at any and everything.
09:50 PM on 04/21/2012
I totally agree with your post thank you.

08:59 PM on 04/10/2012
Why do you make a racial issue out of any incident that involves people of different races, the same incident can happen between two people of the same race and it doesn't change what happened, you choose to create a racial issue out of any incident when the only thing racial was the participants, the incident was not created because of race, it was not decided because of race, when you have murder involving the same race, you sit back and keep your mouth shut, you say or do nothing about this same race crime, the only time it becomes an issue is when there is more than one race involved, and you attempt to make a racial issue out of it.

the first step to solving any problem is coming up with the question. The outcome might be the same but the causes are different. if we pretend that all killings are the same we will never learn how to solve our problems. You are suggesting we never even ask the question "Did race play a role."
07:59 PM on 04/10/2012
I agree that some has forgotten the past and are willing to let their prejudices get ahead of what we in this country needs more than anything, unity, understanding and or simple right headiness. The continuation of the same old negative stereo typical responses is totally played out.
