Hanukkah 2010: 8 Old Jews Telling Jokes (VIDEOS)

When I launched with my partners, Eric Spiegelman and Tim Williams of Jetpack Media, I knew it would be funny. Come on -- Jews over sixty telling their favorite jokes? How could it not be?

I might not have anticipated some of the other things it has turned out to be. For example, after four seasons and with a fifth planned for Boca Raton (the mother lode!) this winter, the site has also become a folklore archive project. We now aspire, like digital-age Alan Lomaxes, to record and preserve the joke canon created by a culture devoted to laughing.

In addition, our book, "Old Jews Telling Jokes: 5000 Years of Funny Bits and Not-So-Kosher Laughs," is a hilarious examination of the significant trends in the American Jewish experience (Jewish Mothers! Doctors! Sex!) as illustrated and illuminated by their jokes.

And finally, the project has also become a celebration of the older members of our community. Folks whom, after a lifetime of experience, are often left out of the pop-culture dialog.

So in honor of the coming celebration of eight nights of Hanukkah, we'd like to present "8 over 80." Eight great jokes from some of our oldest and funniest contributors ...
