New Anti-War Song: "War on War"

Something seems to be happening in America. After years of war and misgovernment an awakening is upon us. Complacency and futility seem to be giving way to a new hope, energy and a demand for change. And it stirs my soul. As a songwriter and performer, I just finished writing and recording a song for an upcoming CD and I could not wait for the completion of the CD to release it. I call it "War on War."

"You say the American way is what we're fighting for -- but I'm sick of the spin you put me in so I declare a war on war!"

In the one day since we released this song on YouTube, the response has been very gratifying. It's exciting to be a part of the revolution in a climate where there don't seem to be a lot of anti-war songs around. I'm giving away this song on MP3 so that everyone can have it and pass it around. The link to a video with the lyrics and the download is WarOnWar.info. I hope you will listen. And sing it. And pass it around.

Peace,
Sam Harris

Reminds me of a poem I wrote on the eve of the war

SIMON GRIBBEN

THE HEARTBREAKERS

Here they come, "The Heartbreakers",

The Killers who also break hearts.

They stop one heart and break every heart that loved the one they stopped.

They even break the hearts of compassionate bystanders.

"The Heartbreakers" come from both sides of any war,

Both just doing their job: Stopping hearts and breaking others.

And for What? Where"s the profit? Where"s the sense?

Jump ahead to the Peace and skip "The Heartbreakers".

Hate has a home with "The Heartbreakers",

Their dirty deed"s made clean and wet.

Sin turned into sport.

The winning and losing,
The body counts,
The cost per kill,
The joys of War.

Like it was all reasonable and tragic and just; all at the same time

And not completely in-fucking-sane!

But here they come,

"The Heartbreakers!"

And there"s no place to hide.

Too wordy and not a good chorus.
Give me 'Eve of Destruction' or 'Wooden Ships, Or Blows against the Empire.
You can't beat a chorus 'Four Dead in Ohio' I could go on...We need another Peter Paul an Mary.

Everything about this song is brilliance at it's best. Sam's song hits the nail on the head in every way. We knew this man could sing the socks off of ANYONE, but now we know that his songwriting is first class as well. Here's hoping that War on War makes a huge impact and that Sam gets the recognition he deserves. How proud I am to say that Sam is #1 in my book.

Great to hear some protest music again. What do you bet there's a lot more of it out there, but being blocked by corporate control of the airwaves?

For such songs to reach enough people to energize a movement, maybe we need a giant website specifically for them. It's never going to happen by turning on the radio anymore -- but somehow it needs to be made that easy.

Thank God almighty! It's about time.

This song - and hopefully, others like it, sung in every language around the globe but emminating from an America hungry for peace, will DO MORE TO PROTECT US FROM TERRORISTS THAN ANYTHING WE'VE DONE YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From a 60s "peacenik" who, with hundreds of thousands of others marched and sang and finally stopped the carnage in Vietnam, I say thank you, thank you, thank you.

I recall when the USA was though to be at peace that some who make a living criticizing youth as feckless & not being mature loudly called for a Moral Equivalant [sp] Of War [MEOW] to cure the USA of the phantom malise they also touted. That may account for naming schemes destined to fail 'war', such as LBJ's war on poverty, the endless, expensive war on drugs. War has become an obscene word. I've seen those who fought in Korea, 'Nam & Afghanistan/Iraq discarded as useless junk when they returned from a war. War has earned its 'bad' name. HST, JFK, LBJ, RMN & W have given war, the evil thing, a worse name. The have done the difficult by giving 'war' a worse meaning as they failed to 'win' their wars. But, hell, it's also possible to give pimping a bad name too. If your song & its 'war' on 'war' ends the world's addiction to war-why not try it?
Maybe you will aid those who are engaged in peace studies.
But don't be surprised if a vocal group refuse to use the word 'war' because both the word & the practice define the nadir of human failure & cruelty. The word is tainted with failure, cruelty & destruction which 'war' leaves in its wake.

When I was young I adopted the song "Mr Blue Skies". This was my true mantra as it gives hope to a poor kid like with one parent, like myself during the 1970's. My father died when I was young so I grew up in poverty'.'Mr. Blue Skies", will forever be the song of hope in my little mind.
