Find lower back relief through:
1. Stretching the fronts of your hips and thighs.
2. Strengthening your core.
3. Alternately stretching and strengthening the muscles of your lower back (today's focus).
One of my favorite additions to any yoga practice, "Waterless Swimming" (You'll see what I mean in the video), strengthens both the lower back the shoulders and increases overall circulation.
One caution: Don't do this on a full stomach!
Let me know how you fare, and, as always, what you would like to see here in the future to help you to unplug and recharge.

These are the best yoga videos I have seen , very clear & explicit.
My daughter teaches yoga; in another state, and while she has been trying to instruct me verbally on the phone, and I have a book with still pix, this is t he best instruction I have seen. ( SS income , can't afford the local yoga classes, or swimming)
I have always been physically strong, but on the eve of my 70th B-day, after a horrible winter of 5' piles snow removal for 2 1/2 months without cease...................my whole body aches................going into gardening season!
Nice Sara. It was very informative. Sending this link to my sister who has hurt her back and recuperating.
if she hurt her back she should go to a professional phys therapist or certified Pilates instructor to do these exercises. DIY PT can do more harm than good.
I love yoga, I practice yoga, and people do need to see there doctor before embarking on an excerise, including yoga. I have bad discs in my back, there are some poses, I cannot do, may never be able to do. If you have low back pain, and pains, you truely do need to go carefully, try a yoga studio , find a good instructor. It has made a world of difference.
Happy posing!!!!
TY to huff po living for it's yoga blogs, its wonderful to see.
Hey Sara,
I just strained a muscle in my lower back yesterday. Do you suggest any stretches or do I just rest with ice and heat?
