I don't know about you, but I turn into a real Scrooge during the holidays. My icy demeanor melts into a puddle of mush mere days before the biggest holiday in America (no, no, not Black Friday, I mean that other big holiday in America) and only then can I appreciate the joy and fun that is Christmas. The cure for my cold holiday spirit this year is the sidesplitting new book by Jen Mann called Spending the Holidays with People I Want to Punch in the Throat: Yuletide Yahoos, Ho-Ho-Humblebraggers, and Other Seasonal Scourges, out October 13, 2015 by Ballantine Books.

Fans of the Throat Punch queen will relish in the new installment of funny and irreverent essays that feature stories of Mann's childhood from her White Trash Doll House to her epic fashion debut in all neon. Fans will appreciate the inclusion of the perennial favorite, Overachieving Elf on the Shelf Mommies that helped propel Mann to Internet fame. But it doesn't end with Christmas for she generously includes a few absolutely hilarious stories under the header, Other Holidays (That Still Annoy Me), in No Particular Order where she takes a swing at Halloween, Chinese New Year, and Mother's Day.

Through all 23 essays, Mann delivers her signature punch lines and sharp critique on the often times ridiculous shenanigans of the modern family. Her ability to make an otherwise boring subject come alive with colorful personalities, biting sarcasm, and impressively astute observations on suburban culture is what makes Mann so much fun to read and so easy to relate to. How much fun would it be to be this author's neighbor?!

The holiday season is busy, expensive, and stressful, but with Spending the Holidays with People I Want to Punch in the Throat: Yuletide Yahoos, Ho-Ho-Humblebraggers, and Other Seasonal Scourges readers may now survive crappy family get-togethers, office parties, and other horrible experiences with humor.
