The Muppets: The Original Soundtrack was released, and it's filled with songs from the movie, The Muppets! If you're wondering, yes, Jason Segel and Amy Adams did sing some of the songs with the Muppets of course! Overall, the soundtrack's genre leans towards show tunes and Glee-type songs. There are some songs within the album that make it so much more than that.
In addition to songs, there are tracks titled, "Muppet Studios, I Can't Believe It," "I Haven't Seen the Old Gang," "We Drive," "That Spells Reno," "Welcome Back," "Party of One," and "We Humbly Ask," that are sound bites from the movie itself. They were placed in between the songs and it seemed to fit well in that sense.
Drum roll... Jason Segel's 'debut' song, "Life's A Happy Song," is a very upbeat and happy track that will get children and adults both skipping around due to the bounci-ness and the lightheartedness of the song. Segel is joined by co-stars Amy Adams, Mickey Rooney, Walter, and Feist in the performance and recording of the track.
Then there's the track, "Pictures in My Head," which takes on the genre of R&B and ballad, performed by some of the Muppets, including Kermit the Frog. In the midst of all the upbeat songs, this track reinforces the change of tone in the movie, from happy to nostalgic and melancholy.
Paul Simon contributes to the soundtrack with the song "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard," which has a slight Spanish tone to it, with the core instrument being the guitar and the voices itself. "We Built This City," by Starship has more of a techno and 80's feel to it and you can tell by the instruments used in the accompaniment, in addition to the style of their singing.
Join Miss Piggy and Amy Adams in singing "Me Party," a track that has a disco and 80's feel to the song. Of course, it's all about Miss Piggy, but Adams was lucky enough to perform it with her! This song gives the soundtrack a good amount of variety in tone and style, compared to other movie soundtracks.
The album closes with the track, "Let's Talk About Me," performed by Nathan Pacheco and Chris Cooper. This song is unique compared to the others because both of them rap or talk while percussion instruments are giving the song a beat. The chorus is beautifully sung by a group of females, with actual notes and tunes.
The Muppets: The Original Soundtrack is a unique and family-friendly album that adults and children can both enjoy!
