Attention, Our Leaders: You're Not Listening!

Seven months hardly constitutes a reasonable interval by which decades of errors in oversight, carelessness, and greed, can be neutralized by the Obama administration.

Oh, well, what else is new? And why should we be surprised?

The fears and anxiety of the American people are being exacerbated by our trusted leaders. The tactic appears to be to rush through the plethora of purported remedies to all of the evils of our economy and medical system before we, the most directly affected, have an adequate chance to know what is being foisted upon us. This will allow the creators of this masterpiece of bureaucracy and confiscation to say that they have accomplished something. All through most lives, the by-product of rushing to alleviate chaos, has been more of the same. The panic button, when pushed, produces more panic. Now, when the most essential of issues require inspection and introspection, the rush to enactment is nothing less than an insult to the intelligence of the American people and a great threat to the return of economic stability and potential prosperity. And the smallest budget item is the time allowed to read the 1000 page document, which quantity far exceeds its quality. How often have we heard legislators admit they do not always have time to read the entirety of the laws for which they vote? How much longer do we the voters have to tolerate this inattention to our needs.

If necessary. the August Congressional break should be postponed. Each of us has had to forgo or delay vacations when our business welfare required it or when our family's care demanded same. How many of us generally work 24/7 so that those who depend on us will have their needs met? Postponing vacations? How many of our citizens have had to abort their vacations or minimize them to conform to the new economic restraints that confront them?

And why now do we need to spend the estimated million dollars or more that would be necessitated by a torture investigation? Didn't we learn anything from the Clinton impeachment farce that wasted millions of unnecessary dollars, created governmental distraction and brought glory to many of the wrong people while exacting unjust devastation or political persecution to multitudes of others?

There can be absolutely no room for error this time around with that which we seek to obviate. This cannot be done inaccurately or impulsively at this crucial time . A non-repealable disaster cannot be allowed to take effect. And we have not had enough time to determine what are the correct measures for our complexity of problems. 1000 pages take a long time to review, even if done correctly. Ergo, one more urgent reason for delay.

Doesn't anyone get it? The new administration has been in power for barely seven months! Common sense will dictate that this hardly constitutes a reasonable interval by which decades of errors in oversight, carelessness, and greed, can be neutralized. On the contrary, the apparent result of "Getting this done" will be a multiplication of the excesses sought to be remedied, namely a horrific increase in a deficit budget, a health care system that punishes those who can pay to get the care they need with higher taxes to pay for coverage of others and in the end, a possible rationing system that will make life and death decisions for care. We will be no better off than many other nations of the world whose inhabitants come to us to get the exemplary care they cannot get at home. Why not find a way to merely cover those in our country who don't have coverage? Why do we have to create a Frankenstein monster that will devour its creators and hurt irreparably the totality of the purported beneficiaries. Moderate democrats, this is your chance to demonstrate your political Independence opposing measures that will hurt more than it will help?

We are trying to do too much at one time. We may have to put in more long term effort and thoroughly attend to one or two key issues that face us at a time. The problem is determining what does take precedence and even more importantly, stop the bickering and the blame-gaming, and again, a look deep inside by each of those in whom we have placed our trust. These illustrious individuals can't seem to grasp that while party unity can be strategically appropriate, it can be and often is morally wrong. The their voters and to prevent the runaway train that appears to be coming up the Hill (Capitol Hill). The questions must be faced, as to what is right and what is wrong? They are not always easy to answer, because the responses will often require action that may be detrimental to the electoral security of the office-holder, the courage to say no to the lobbyists whose numbers are multiplying like rabbits at a time when objectivity and magnanimity must prevail.

But, why is it so hard to understand that when the result is just and beneficial to the constituency, the candidates will be reelected? Stop worrying about who will get the credit, a Republican or a Democrat. Believe it or not, if the constituents can sleep at night and don't have to live in constant fear of losing everything they have worked for, and if we stop playing the "poor" against the "rich" , (whatever that term really means,) and if we stop encouraging the pursuit of the American dream and then trying to take it away in the next breath once it has been achieved, and if we can use our creativity to find incentive type legislation that encourages those who have achieved, to create more jobs and opportunities for others, trust me! All of you beloved souls in Washington, and in your respective state capitals, will get credit. Lots of it!
